2023 Cabernet Sauvignon - Releasing Soon

2020 Cabernet Sauvignon

Tasting Notes

What a beautiful vintage of Doubleback. This growing season in 2023 was warm and generous. Inky colored wines show off juicy red fruit, fresh ripe blackberry, sage brush, and toasty young French oak. The way this wine feels is incredible with textural pleasure, rich, chewy, ripe tannin, with a long finish. This wine is showing off now in its youth but does not sacrifice its ability to go the distance. Decant now if pulling a cork, otherwise drink 2028 through 2045.

Vintage Notes

This growing season was a fantastic one and the wines say that for themselves. Coming off of a cool year with large crops in 2022, 2023 was almost the opposite. A slightly late bud break was followed by a beautifully warm summer with minimal heat spikes that kept the vines ripening, healthy, and balanced. A warm summer was tempered by fantastic weather during our harvest months of September and October. I began picking for Doubleback on September 14th with a block of Merlot from our Schafer estate and finished a little over a month later with Petit Verdot from McQueen. The wines are a perfect combination of warm season flavors, while retaining freshness, density, balance and a unique expression of Cabernet grown our estate owned and managed vineyard sites.
